Meaning when upright
The Eight of Wands is the fastest card in the deck: eight staves sail through a clear sky, all heading the same way and beginning to descend. It signals rapid progress, news or messages arriving, travel, and events that suddenly gain momentum after a period of waiting. Waite speaks of motion through the immovable, of swiftness like that of an express messenger, and of great haste and great hope; what the wands signify is at hand and may already be on the threshold. He also names 'the arrows of love,' which is why the card is sometimes read as a sudden romantic spark or declaration.
