Meaning when upright
The Eight of Pentacles shows a craftsman seated at his bench, cutting pentagrams into disk after disk, with his finished pieces hung on a post beside him. It is the card of practice and diligence: learning a trade, refining a skill, or simply doing good work one repetition at a time. The distant town suggests he has stepped away from distraction to concentrate. Waite gives "work, employment, commission, craftsmanship, skill in craft and business, perhaps in the preparatory stage," and in his Three of Pentacles he describes this apprentice later rewarded and "at work in earnest."

Voided ambition, vanity, cupidity, exaction, usury. It may also signify the possession of skill, in the sense of the ingenious mind turned to cunning and intrigue.

A young man in business who has relations with the Querent; a dark girl. Reversed: The Querent will be compromised in a matter of money-lending.
